Makeup by Vi is a professional Asian makeup artist based in Bankstown, Sydney. The work is bridal, wedding, graduation, party and event makeup, done for Asian skin tones and Asian features — monolid and hooded eyes, and undertones that most foundation ranges match badly. You can book at the Bankstown studio or have the artist come to you anywhere in Sydney.
The studio is at Building 5, 38 Kitchener Parade, Bankstown NSW 2200, a few minutes from Bankstown Airport and Bankstown station. Mobile appointments travel to you: inside 10 km of the studio travel is included, and further out it is $4 per kilometre for the whole distance, shown on the booking page before you confirm rather than added afterwards.
Regularly serving Bankstown, Sydney CBD, the Eastern Suburbs, the Inner West, Barangaroo and Surry Hills, and travelling further across Sydney on request.
Most bookings are brides. A trial first is the usual order — it settles the look, the coverage and how it photographs, so the wedding morning is the second time it has been done rather than the first. Makeup is chosen to hold through a long day and to read correctly under camera flash, which is where an everyday face usually falls down.
Alongside client work there are classes: an everyday self-makeup course at $120, a basic course at $150 and an advanced course at $200, plus group and bridal-party workshops. These are taught in Vietnamese.
Vi speaks English, Vietnamese and Mandarin Chinese, so the consultation, the trial and the wedding morning can all happen in the language you are most comfortable in — which matters more than it sounds when you are describing the look you want. The website itself is also readable in Japanese, Korean, Hindi and Russian.
Bridal makeup is a long appointment and a detailed conversation — coverage, lashes, how it should photograph, what to change after the trial. Vi speaks Mandarin Chinese and Vietnamese as well as English, so that conversation can happen properly rather than through a family member translating. For Chinese and Vietnamese brides in Sydney this is usually the difference between the look you asked for and the look that was understood.
